ES Riders Donates Segways To Kids

It was a spunky 10-year-old named Andy who gave Tom O’Reilly, president and founder of Logo Loc, Ltd., the inspiration for forming ES Riders, an organization that donates Segways to kids with disabilities. The boy, who was gliding around on a borrowed Segway, was born with spina bifida and paralyzed from the waist down. Soon after that meeting, O’Reilly raised funds to get Andy his own PT and after that ES Riders was formed. The group, an Easter Seals program, now has additional sponsors and big plans to donate more Segways to disabled kids. Read the article >>>

German States Demand OK for Segway Use

Germany’s 16 states have appealed to the federal government for the right to use Segways on sidewalks and in bike lanes. German police and other workers who do a lot of walking are major advocates of the Segway and have given high praise to the PT. Under German law, express approval under its federal road law is needed for the Segway to be legally ridden on public streets. So far, Segways have been used in about half the 16 states with the help of exemption decrees. Read the article >>>

Santa’s Got a Segway This Year

Santa Claus went high-tech on the campus of the British Columbia Institute of Technology, in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The jolly old elf, decked out in his best red suit, chose the Segway over his usual rig to demonstrate that technology changes everything. Santa and his helper glided around the Burnaby campus, soliciting donations for the BCIT Student Association's Student Assistance Fund.

Soldiers Honor Segs4Vets Founder

Wounded veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan recently paid tribute to Jerry Kerr, founder of Segs4Vets, a charitable organization that gives Segway PTs to permanently disabled veterans who have difficulty walking. The event was held at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia. Kerr, who is a quadriplegic and Segway user himself, founded Segs4Vets in 2005 to help disabled men and women of the U.S. military live their lives to the fullest and see others eye to eye from a Segway instead of from the seat of a wheelchair.
