The Silicon Valley Aftershocks and New Zealand Pole Blacks faced off on the polo field in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on Sept. 16 for the 2007 Woz Challenge Cup. The Segway match was a highlight of the 23rd annual Polo in the Park charity event, a daylong festival of polo (horseback and Segway), wine tasting, silent and live auctions, a vaulting exhibition, and much more.
On divot-pocked terrain, the U.S. and New Zealand teams demonstrated their prowess on the field despite all the bumping around and speed limiter challenges on the roughed-up grounds. The Kiwis, running on two x2's and three i2's (courtesy of Segway of Oakland), played a tough game but were ultimately defeated 5-0 by the Gen-1-mounted Aftershocks, with Stuart Moore scoring three goals, followed by Jon Bauer and Alex Ko with one goal a piece. Absent from the match was the Woz himself, Steve Wozniak, who was red carpet-bound for the Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.
